Walter A. Wood Supply Company was founded in 1913 by- you guessed it, Walter A. Wood.  The company is still headquartered in that original location in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  However, that small, cramped feed and seed store has grown into over 220,000 square feet of office, warehouse and distribution space.

In 1932, the Henry Family of Chattanooga bought the company from the heirs of Mr. Wood.  The Henry’s continue to own the company to this day, with four generations of the family having been involved in the business.  The Chief Executive Officer, David R. Henry, has worked in the company for over 30 years and proudly carries on the family’s tradition of integrity in all its business dealings.

With the rise of the manufacturing sector in the South during the early 1970’s, Walter A. Wood moved to broaden its product lines.  The company quickly became known for its extensive product offering and became a leading supplier to factories and mills across Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.  Today, the company distributes more than 200,000 products from leading industry manufacturers in its industrial, waterworks and pumping divisions.

In 1995, Walter A. Wood became a founding member of Affiliated Distributors (A-D), an independent buying cooperative serving the largest industrial distributors in the United States.  Today, Affiliated Distributors is the largest purchasing organization of its kind, with over $27 billion in annual purchases and over 500 members.

Over the past decade, the company has continued to expand its product offerings and value-added services.  In addition to the Industrial products division, Walter A. Wood has dedicated business units that serve the Waterworks and Pumping Solutions marketplaces.  These business units have distinguished themselves as market leaders and are important parts of the Walter A. Wood family.

In response to customer needs, the company also provides the industry’s broadest range of value-added services.  Walter A. Wood offers a full range of customer business tools, including technology solutions, stockroom management, dedicated sales support, and cost savings programs. To address specific product needs, Walter A. Wood provides custom hose assembly, abrasives engineering, pump design and many other value added services.

As Walter A. Wood moves forward to its 100th year in business, one of the keys to our success remains constant: great people.  The company is very proud of the long tenure enjoyed by its employees.  The majority of our team has been with the company for over 20 years.  It is the hard work and dedication of these folks that make Walter A.
